Spotify has unveiled a new ticketing feature designed to reward its most loyal listeners.

Announced during the company’s 2026 Investor Day, Reserved will allow eligible Premium subscribers to secure concert tickets before they become available to the general public.

The initiative reflects their growing ambitions beyond music streaming.

By connecting artists with their most engaged audiences, the platform aims to strengthen the relationship between fans and live experiences.

The platform is launching Reserved through a multi-year partnership with Live Nation, one of the world’s largest live entertainment companies.

The feature identifies an artist’s most dedicated listeners by analyzing various forms of activity on the platform.

They considers factors such as streaming habits, song shares, and overall engagement.

The company also evaluates how frequently users listen to an artist, how long they have followed that artist, and whether their activity appears authentic rather than generated through automated behavior.

Once selected, eligible users will receive both an email and an in-app notification informing them of their access opportunity.

Read more: Spotify Protest Wave: Artists Remove Their Catalogs

A 24-Hour Window to Secure Tickets

Fans who qualify for Reserved will receive a limited purchasing window of approximately 24 hours.

During that period, they can browse available tour dates and choose the show they wish to attend.

They will also be able to select their preferred city and seating options during checkout.

Unlike traditional presales that rely on allocations set aside by promoters or sponsors, Reserved draws from Spotify’s own ticket inventory.

This distinction gives the company greater control over how it distributes tickets to its most active listeners.

Spotify explained that eligibility depends largely on a listener’s relationship with the artist and their location preferences.

According to the company, users should enable their preferred location within the Live Events Feed and ensure that notifications remain active to maximize their chances of receiving an invitation.

They also clarified that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee access.

Demand for tickets will likely exceed the number of seats available for many tours, meaning some qualifying fans may not receive offers.

By emphasizing meaningful engagement, the company hopes to prioritize genuine supporters over bots and opportunistic resellers.

Read more: Spotify Boosts EDM Credits With WhoSampled Integration

Premium Subscribers of Spotify Receive the Benefit at No Extra Cost

Reserved will be available exclusively to Premium subscribers who are at least 18 years old.

They will not charge an additional fee to access the feature.

The rollout is scheduled to begin in the United States this summer.

Spotify also plans to expand Reserved by introducing additional ticketing partners and bringing the service to international markets in the future.

The launch of Reserved signals Spotify’s continued push into the live music ecosystem.

Rather than simply serving as a destination for music discovery and streaming, the platform is increasingly positioning itself as a bridge between artists and their audiences.

For devoted fans, the feature could offer a more direct path to securing tickets before public demand drives competition higher.

For artists, it presents another way to reward the listeners who support them most consistently.

As live events continue to play a central role in the music industry, Reserved may reshape how fans gain access to some of the year’s most anticipated concerts.

The post Spotify Reserved Gives Top Fans Early Tickets first appeared on Rave Colony.

Spotify reveals how fans prepare for Coachella 2026 in a way that goes beyond the current lineup.

Based on more than 340,000 user-generated playlists, listeners are not only focusing on artists set to perform this year.

They also revisit tracks that defined earlier festival moments, especially from the early to mid-2010s.

Songs such as Latch by Disclosure and Sam Smith, Lean On by Major Lazer, MØ, and DJ Snake, Clarity by Zedd and Foxes, as well as Drop The Game by Flume and Chet Faker, appear consistently.

Even though many of these artists are not part of the 2026 lineup, their music still helps shape the festival mood.

In this way, listeners connect the present edition to what many consider Coachella’s peak years.

Read more: Anyma Releases Solomun B2B Playlist on Spotify

How These Songs Achieved Massive Popularity Back Then

Looking closer, most of these tracks come from a key period between 2012 and 2015.

During this time, electronic music expanded beyond club culture and reached a broader audience.

Latch, released in 2012, grew gradually and became a lasting hit rather than a short-lived trend.

This long presence helped it stay relevant in playlists and DJ sets.

Meanwhile, Clarity followed a different path. It reached both pop and dance audiences and later won a major award at the 56th GRAMMY Awards.

This recognition gave the track strong visibility beyond festival crowds.

A few years later, Lean On pushed that crossover even further.

By late 2015, it became the most-streamed song on Spotify at the time, showing how deeply it connected across platforms and audiences.

Drop The Game highlights a different side of that era.

It did not rely on massive global exposure, yet it became one of the defining electronic tracks from Australia.

Its chart success and strong reception show that listeners also return to songs with a distinct mood, not just major hits.

Together, these tracks reflect a period when electronic music expanded in multiple directions.

Read more: EDM Festivals April 2026: Global Highlights Guide

Mix of Artists in One Spotify Playlist

Beyond song choices, Spotify data also shows how fans mix different eras in one playlist.

Alongside these 2010s EDM tracks, listeners frequently add artists such as Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, and Billie Eilish.

These names represent more recent Coachella headliners.

Their presence next to earlier EDM tracks shows how listeners combine past and present rather than separating them.

This pattern also reflects how the festival itself has evolved.

In the early 2010s, electronic acts like Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, and Avicii often held major evening slots.

Today, those same positions are more likely filled by global pop and alternative artists.

As a result, the overall festival experience has shifted, and listeners now reflect that change in their playlists.

Playlist features also play a role in this behavior.

Collaborative playlists allow groups of friends to build shared selections before the festival.

This often leads to a mix of older EDM tracks and current artists.

In addition, prompt-based playlists help users explore both familiar names and new acts from the lineup.

These tools make it easier to combine listening habits from different periods.

Ultimately, this trend goes beyond simple nostalgia.

The presence of 2010s EDM tracks reflects how fans remember a time when electronic music dominated major stages.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of current headliners shows how the festival continues to grow and evolve.

When both elements appear together, they create a single listening experience that connects different eras of Coachella.

The post Spotify Highlights 2010s EDM in Coachella Playlists first appeared on Rave Colony.

Spotify reported that it paid more than $11 billion to the music industry in 2025.

This figure marks the largest annual payout ever made by a single music retailer.

The company shared the data through its Loud & Clear transparency report, which explains how streaming revenue reaches artists and rights holders.

The payout shows steady growth for the platform.

It surpassed previous records and reflects the growing role of streaming in the global music economy.

Compared to the previous year, payouts rose by over 10 percent, reinforcing streaming as a key source of industry revenue.

The report also highlighted the strong presence of independent artists and labels.

They accounted for about half of all royalties distributed in 2025.

This trend points to the rising influence of self-released and indie music across streaming platforms.

In addition, more artists are now earning meaningful income.

Read more: Spotify Boosts EDM Credits With WhoSampled Integration

Over 13,800 artists generated at least $100,000 on Spotify during the year.

Meanwhile, around 1,500 artists earned more than $1 million from the platform alone.

Beyond recorded music, Spotify also supports live events.

Its tools helped artists drive over $1 billion in concert ticket sales by connecting fans directly to shows through integrated features.

Even with these milestones, discussions about streaming economics continue.

The platform distributes around 70 percent of its revenue to rights holders, including labels and publishers.

These parties then pay artists based on their individual contracts.

Some critics believe the current system still makes it hard for smaller artists to earn stable income.

On the other hand, supporters point to the growing number of artists who now generate solid earnings from streaming.

As the industry evolves, platforms like Spotify continue to shape how people discover, distribute, and monetize music worldwide.

The post Spotify Pays $11B to Music Industry in 2025 first appeared on Rave Colony.

The global music industry has taken its long-running battle against online piracy to a new level.

This time, it has launched an unprecedented legal offensive.

The target is Anna’s Archive, a shadow library that has quietly operated on the fringes of the internet.

Observers have described this move as one of the most aggressive copyright enforcement efforts of the digital era.

The unsealing of court records in New York recently brought the details to light.

Those documents revealed that Spotify had joined forces with Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music.

Together, they carried out a covert legal action aimed directly at the operators behind the site.

Read more: Spotify Protest Wave: Artists Remove Their Catalogs

How It Went Down

According to the court filings, the lawsuit was filed quietly in late December.

It was placed under seal to keep the case out of public view.

The goal was strategic.

By acting in silence, the plaintiffs aimed to prevent the defendants from moving their technical infrastructure overseas.

The plaintiffs accused Anna’s Archive of stealing around 86 million tracks, a figure they claimed equaled nearly all music available on Spotify’s platform.

Soon after, the court moved swiftly.

On January 20, 2026, the case reached a turning point.

Judge Jed S. Rakoff issued a preliminary injunction.

The decision came after the site’s anonymous administrators failed to appear in court.

As a result, the court order went beyond a simple legal warning.

It compelled domain registrars and service providers to take direct action.

The court instructed companies such as Cloudflare to shut down key domains, including .org, .se, and .li.

With those domains disabled, the site’s online presence was effectively dismantled.

At the same time, the music companies expanded the scope of their accusations.

They argued that the case extended beyond simple copyright infringement.

Instead, they alleged violations of multiple laws, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The plaintiffs chose the most aggressive path available under the law.

They sought the maximum statutory penalty of $150,000 for each infringed work.

As a result, the total potential damages ballooned to an extraordinary $12.9 trillion.

Legal experts noted that the figure primarily served as a warning to deter future piracy rather than a sum anyone was likely to recover.

Beyond Piracy: AI Training and Metadata Concerns Music Industry

However, the case extends beyond unauthorized music distribution.

Public attention has largely centered on the hundreds of terabytes of audio files tied to the case.

However, analysts have urged a broader view.

They have pointed to the vast metadata collection linked to the site as an equally important part of the story.

Reports indicate that Anna’s Archive amassed hundreds of millions of metadata entries over time.

This collection went far beyond simple file listings.

It included artist names, album details, and ISRC codes.

Such structured data is considered highly valuable for artificial intelligence development.

Industry observers have drawn attention to a familiar pattern.

In the past, major technology companies have relied on similar shadow libraries.

They used these sources to obtain large, well-organized datasets for training generative AI systems.

By harvesting data from Spotify, Anna’s Archive did more than provide free access to music.

It effectively positioned itself as a large-scale supplier of raw material for emerging algorithm-driven music technologies.

The post Music Industry Launches Major Legal Strike on Anna’s Archive first appeared on Rave Colony.

Global music streaming continued to grow in 2025.

A new report from Luminate shows that on-demand audio streams increased by 9.6% year over year.

The total climbed from 4.7 trillion streams in 2024 to 5.1 trillion in 2025.

However, the data also highlights how uneven streaming success remains.

About 88% of all tracks received fewer than 1,000 plays during the year.

Even so, roughly 541,000 songs form what the report describes as the backbone of global consumption.

Tracks that earn between 1 million and 50 million plays account for 49.4% of all streams.

Regionally, the United States ranked as the world’s top music exporter in 2025.

The United Kingdom followed in second place. Pop led exports from the U.S., while rock remained the U.K.’s strongest international genre.

Meanwhile, listener behavior revealed clear platform trends.

Fans of electronic dance music showed a higher likelihood of streaming through YouTube and Spotify.

Finally, Luminate reported that premium listening remains concentrated in a few major markets.

Nearly half of all premium streams on services such as Apple Music and Spotify come from four countries: the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany.

Throughout 2025, Spotify found itself under growing public scrutiny.

A series of controversies surrounded Spotify throughout the year.

Reports revealed that CEO Daniel Ek had invested nearly $700 million in a German AI military technology company.

At the same time, ICE recruitment ads appeared on the platform.

Ongoing debates around AI usage only added fuel to the fire.

Together, these issues raised serious questions about Spotify’s transparency and credibility.

As a result, many artists around the world chose to take a firm stand.

Rather than staying silent, they decided to remove their music from Spotify altogether.

The move clearly threatened their careers.

Even so, the artists stayed true to their values and explored more ethical platforms.

Below are some of the notable musicians who made that decision in 2025.

Read more: Spotify Boosts EDM Credits With WhoSampled Integration

Massive Attack

One of the most high-profile acts to exit Spotify in 2025 was Massive Attack.

Known for consistently standing by their political and ethical beliefs, the trip-hop pioneers announced via Instagram in September that they had asked Universal Music Group to withdraw their entire catalog from the platform.

Kadhja Bonet

In August, singer-songwriter Kadhja Bonet revealed that she would remove her music from Spotify.

She shared her concerns through a detailed Instagram post.

There, she explained her issues with major streaming platforms.

As a result, she decided to release her music exclusively on Bandcamp and Qobuz.

This decision also led to her parting ways with Ninja Tune, which ended her record deal following the announcement.

Bonet emphasized that artists empower large tech companies by feeding them creative ideas and revenue.

She also expressed discomfort with ignoring alleged human rights issues linked to various streaming platforms and tech corporations.

She decided to take a firm stand.

As a result, she stopped supplying her music to Spotify.

At the same time, she also chose to withhold all new releases from Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon, and YouTube.

While some warned her that this move could harm her career, she maintained confidence that artists can help shape a more ethical future.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

In July, the Australian band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard removed 27 albums and live recordings from Spotify.

They addressed the decision directly through Instagram Stories.

There, they explained that learning about Spotify’s leadership investing in AI-powered military drone technology played a key role.

That information ultimately pushed them to remove their music from the platform.

They encouraged fans to support them on other platforms, with their music now available via Bandcamp.

WU LYF

UK indie band WU LYF took down their 2011 album Go Tell Fire to the Mountain from all streaming services earlier this year.

In a statement shared in September, the band reflected on a series of long-standing frustrations.

They pointed to Spotify’s algorithm and economic model, which they believe have slowly eroded the culture around music.

They also noted that recent revelations about investments in AI weaponry reinforced their choice.

In addition, the group decided not to release their new single, A New Life Is Coming, on any streaming platforms.

Read more: SoundCloud Clarifies AI Use, Artists Keep Control

Xiu Xiu

Experimental group Xiu Xiu removed their catalog from Spotify in July.

The band shared on Instagram that their decision was driven by the platform’s use of music revenue to fund AI war technology.

In the same post, they urged fans to consider canceling their Spotify subscriptions.

Izzy True

Chicago-based band Izzy True also pulled their music from Spotify in 2025.

In a video shared online, the band opened up about the reasons behind their decision.

They also hinted at what comes next.

Their upcoming album, they suggested, will live outside Spotify and instead appear on platforms like Tidal, Bandcamp, and Apple Music.

The post Spotify Protest Wave: Artists Remove Their Catalogs first appeared on Rave Colony.
