Reading City has arrived in Seoul with a concept that merges techno music and reading into one shared experience.
The series introduces a fresh way to engage with electronic music, moving beyond the traditional club setting and into a more reflective environment.
The series takes place at Undercity in collaboration with Trevari Book Club.
Organizers run Reading City for six hours on the final Sunday of each month.
What Makes Reading City Different
During the event, attendees settle into comfortable sofas and take their time to get settled.
They open their books and begin to read at their own pace.
In the background, DJs play a carefully curated selection of electronic music, creating a subtle atmosphere that supports focus without pulling attention away from the pages.
Although the venue serves alcohol, the atmosphere remains calm and introspective.
Most guests choose to keep to themselves, creating a setting that feels closer to a quiet lounge than a typical club.
After the first session, organizer Kim Yanu explained that the crowd reacted in different ways.
Some visitors stood near the DJ booth and danced, while others stayed focused on their books without distraction.
This contrast became part of the event’s appeal.
Attendee Park Dong-ae shared a similar view.
She believed that people do not need to limit reading to libraries or homes.
She also noted that electronic music does not belong only to late-night clubs, adding that the event shows how both can feel more relaxed and accessible.
She further suggested that combining books with other cultural formats can help more people feel comfortable with reading.

Next Event in March 2026
Looking ahead, the next session will take place on March 29 from 1 PM to 7 PM.
The event will begin with a playlist of hypnotic techno, ambient, downtempo, and melodic techno designed to support focus.
Then, DJ M.Bience will perform a set that blends techno with subtle classical and trance elements.
Finally, COSHA will close the evening with repetitive, hypnotic techno aimed at deep immersion.
Organizers have emphasized that Reading City allows guests to move at their own pace.
They have designed the sound to stay minimal and rhythmic, helping listeners sink deeper into their books while the music quietly guides the atmosphere.
