Swedish House Mafia has given fans an early preview of its upcoming collaboration with Lykke Li during the trio’s residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
The track, titled “Happiness Is So Sad,” made its live debut on 28 June and is scheduled for release on 31 July.
Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell premiered the song during their weekly Sunday performance at the open-air Ibiza venue.
Shortly after the set, the group confirmed the official release date through social media.
Inside the Collaboration
Earlier this month, Swedish House Mafia discussed the project in an interview with Vogue Scandinavia.
The trio revealed that renowned producers Max Martin and Oscar Holter co-produced the single.
Sebastian Ingrosso said the collaboration began with the idea of assembling what he described as a “Swedish Avengers” team of musicians.
He also praised Lykke Li’s artistry, calling her one of Sweden’s most distinctive artists.
Ingrosso highlighted the emotional depth of her music and described her voice as uniquely recognizable.

Lykke Li Reflects on the Recording Session with Swedish House Mafia
Lykke Li admitted she initially felt nervous about writing with new collaborators.
However, she said Ingrosso quickly made her feel comfortable thanks to his positive energy.
She recalled the moment the group discovered the song’s central riff, saying everyone celebrated in the studio.
According to Li, the melody captured the feeling of wanting to cry and dance at the same time.
She believes that emotional contrast reflects the balance between darkness and light often found in Swedish music.
Swedish House Mafia will continue its Ushuaïa Ibiza residency every Sunday through 13 September, with “Happiness Is So Sad” arriving on streaming platforms later this month.
