Wayang has remained a familiar name in Indonesian music since the mid-1990s, building a legacy through a string of successful releases.

Over the years, the band produced popular songs such as Damai, Dongeng, Katanya, Kecewa, Gadis Kecil, Beri Aku Cinta, Tak Selamanya, and Andai Kau Ada.

The group also released several albums throughout its career, helping establish its place in Indonesia’s pop-rock landscape.

Now, in 2026, Wayang begins a completely new chapter.

Following significant changes within the band, the group introduces a refreshed lineup consisting of Taurin on vocals, Odji on bass, Ilham Ramadhan and Aie on guitars, and Farid on drums.

The transition began at the end of 2025 when Odji became the only remaining original member determined to continue the band’s journey.

Together with Lilik, whom the band regards as a key figure behind Wayang’s growth, he started rebuilding the group.

Rather than holding formal auditions, the new lineup formed organically through personal connections.

What started as a search for new members eventually evolved into a creative reset that brought fresh energy to the band’s identity.

The changes extend beyond personnel. Wayang has also reimagined its musical direction.

While many of the band’s earlier songs were written primarily by Odji, the creative process is now more collaborative.

The group has also embraced a new fan identity, changing its fanbase name from “Wayangku” to “Pendongeng.”

According to Odji, these changes reflect the band’s commitment to continuous growth and positive transformation.

The New Era of Wayang

For the members, this evolution goes far beyond introducing new faces.

They view it as an opportunity to develop artistically, strengthen their creative process, and enhance their live performances.

The result is a stronger musical chemistry and a more modern sonic identity.

The arrival of a female vocalist naturally brings a different image to the band.

Taurin acknowledged that longtime listeners would immediately notice the contrast between the new and previous versions of Wayang.

However, the positive reactions from fans and fellow musicians who have already heard the band’s latest material have strengthened their confidence ahead of the release.

New Song for New Era

To introduce this new era, Wayang has released a new single titled Mati Aku Mati.

Written by guitarist Ilham Ramadhan, the track embraces an alternative rock sound characterized by powerful guitar arrangements, dynamic rhythms, and expressive vocals.

The song tells a story of deep affection, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Its lyrics explore admiration and emotional devotion, portraying feelings so intense that they seem tied to life and death itself.

The inspiration behind the song dates back to Ilham’s school years.

He originally wrote it after being asked to create a song for a friend’s younger sibling.

As they became closer, the composition developed into a personal expression of admiration.

The phrase “Mati Aku Mati” appeared repeatedly throughout the lyrics and eventually became the title because it captured the emotional core of the story.

When the band gathered material for its new project, the members reviewed seven songs together before selecting a lead single.

Choosing the lead single was a collaborative process.

After evaluating several tracks, the band agreed that “Mati Aku Mati” best represented their new sound.

The song combines accessible melodies with a bold, guitar-driven arrangement.

With the release of Mati Aku Mati, the band officially launches a new phase in its career.

The band sees this single as a new beginning. It brings fresh energy and a modern sound while staying connected to the essence of Wayang.

The track is now available on major digital streaming platforms, while its lyric video can be viewed on Wayang’s official YouTube channel.
