Twenty years have passed since lightcraft released its debut EP, The Modern Seasons.
The Jakarta-based anthemic pop band is now entering a new musical chapter.
The band has released “Waiting for the Morning Sun” as the first single from a fully reimagined version of its 2006 debut record.
The release also marks the beginning of a year-long celebration of both the EP and lightcraft’s two-decade journey.
lightcraft Reinvents a Defining Chapter
Rather than remastering the original recordings, lightcraft rebuilt “The Modern Seasons” from the ground up.
The band re-recorded, rearranged, and reinterpreted every song to reflect its artistic growth over the past 20 years.
The project serves as both a tribute to the band’s beginnings and a reflection of how its sound has evolved.
Originally released as an indie rock and dance anthem, “Waiting for the Morning Sun” has undergone the biggest transformation on the EP.
Building on the electronic influences introduced in last year’s “Love, Again (feat. RIMALDI),” the new version moves further into melodic electronic music.
While the previous single blended the band’s anthemic pop roots with house influences, this release fully embraces that evolution.
Edwin Zachman produced, mixed, and mastered the track at Tavis Studio. The song draws inspiration from artists such as RÜFÜS DU SOL and SG Lewis.
It also stays true to lightcraft’s distinctive identity.
Sweeping synthesizers, hypnotic rhythms, and a strong sense of progression lead into a drum and bass finale.
Together, those elements create a cinematic atmosphere filled with nostalgia and optimism.

The Song Carries a New Meaning
Frontman Imam Surataruna said “Waiting for the Morning Sun” has always been one of the band’s defining songs.
He explained that the new version reflects everything lightcraft has learned over the past two decades while honoring its origins.
The song was originally inspired by a long-distance relationship.
Over time, its meaning has expanded to represent perseverance through difficult times, hope after loss, and optimism for the future.
The official music video continues the band’s collaboration with videographer Reksa Fajar, who directed, filmed, and edited the project.
Glendy Elbricts of Ruang Creative photographed the artwork, while Adinda Safira handled the layout and design.
Looking Ahead to the Next 20 Years
Guitarist Fari Febrian said revisiting “The Modern Seasons” was about more than nostalgia.
Instead of simply recreating the songs, the band imagined how they would sound if written today.
The project ultimately became an opportunity to rediscover the inspiration behind their music.
The release of “Waiting for the Morning Sun” kicks off lightcraft’s 20th anniversary celebration.
The reimagined edition of “The Modern Seasons” will arrive in September.
The band is also preparing additional releases that continue the electronic direction introduced in “Love, Again (feat. RIMALDI).”
Keyboardist Enrico Prabowo described the anniversary as an important milestone.
He said the project focuses on using everything the band has learned over the past two decades to build an even stronger future.
“Waiting for the Morning Sun” will be available on all major digital streaming platforms starting July 29, 2026.
The official music video will premiere on lightcraft’s official YouTube channel the same day.
