Dutch EDM Drives Record Music Export Growth

Contribution of Dutch EDM

Dutch EDM continues to power the country’s cultural economy.

According to a new report commissioned by Buma Cultuur, Dutch popular music exports surpassed €247 million in 2025.

This figure marks a record high and reflects a €27 million increase from the previous year.

Most of the growth came from live performance revenue, which reached €197.1 million.

Electronic dance music artists led the surge.

Together, they generated €165.6 million in export value.

The dominance is hardly surprising for a country that consistently produces global EDM headliners such as Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens, and Don Diablo.

Touring data further highlights the global reach of Dutch electronic acts.

Franky Rizardo topped the list of international performances with 130 shows in 2025.

He was followed by Afrojack with 114 and Mau P with 112. The report also points to growing diversity.

Rising techno talent KI/KI became the first female solo artist on the ranking, landing at number 22.

As the home of Amsterdam Dance Event, the Netherlands remains a central force in global EDM culture.

Its influence continues to evolve rather than rely on past success.

Historically, Dutch artists helped push electronic music from underground clubs into a worldwide festival and touring powerhouse.

Today, that same pipeline keeps producing DJs who headline major events at a relentless pace, showing that global demand remains strong.

Although electronic music dominates the report, other genres also contribute.

Acts such as metal band Distant, pianists Lucas and Arthur Jussen, and singer Herman van Veen also appear in the export data.

Even so, the main takeaway remains clear: dance music continues to play an outsized role in how Dutch artists succeed on the global stage.
